A Sunday Walkabout

As I mentioned in my last post, Wifey is out-of-town dropping law knowledge on .gov types for the next five days, so I am flying solo with B-Man. That means there would be no Sunday ride. But that didn’t mean we couldn’t get outside to enjoy the sun and 40 degree heat wave that central Michigan is experiencing right now.

After a morning of watching another goalless FA Cup draw (I’m up to three hours of goalless, joyless FA Cup viewing this weekend), lunch and a study session for B’s Monday history test, we walked into town with our cameras to take some photos. Something I’ve been wanting to do for some time, but always feel like I’ll look like some sort of creepy old dude walking around town with a camera around my neck. There’s no way that walking around a small town’s back alleys with a camera and an 11-year-old boy could make me look creepy, right?

We walked, we talked, we acted like goofs. It was a good way to get out and enjoy the sunny Sunday and for B-Man to get more familiar with the camera his Poppy got him for Christmas.

Since I’m still learning my way around the manual settings of my DSLR, B got a pretty good camera for Christmas, and I like to encourage his creativity, I thought it would be fun to walk around town and shoot whatever struck our fancy. All was going great, but then B’s battery died. DOH! I guess we should have double checked that before leaving the house.

We had fun regardless and I was more than a little stoked that I didn’t even have to ask B twice about it. I asked and five minutes later he had his shoes on and camera in hand.

It was fun to hang out with him like this and I’m anxious to work with him on the pics he took. NOT that I am a pro photographer, far from it, but I enjoy it and I’m hoping to help nurture his creative side along with the book smarts he gets from his mother, and his love of sports that he gets from both of us.

Once B’s batteries died, I turned my camera on him. That was fine, except I’m not sure if his eyes were ready for all the spring-like sunshine we had today! Oh well, it wasn’t bright everywhere and I got a nice shot of him with one of Mt. P’s other gingies…

While it wasn’t a ride and it was so NOT exercise, it was a great way to enjoy one of the first spring-like days of the year. I’m really hoping that we can do it again soon.

Later.
