I woke up at 5:30 AM on Saturday with all the intentions of going for a lumber. However, the stifling humidity and thunderstorms predicted to arrive over the next hour or so had me deciding that a Day of Nothing was in order.
With that, I fed Lola, put the readied coffee in a thermos, and returned to bed for another hour or so before officially starting my Day of Nothing.
Sadly, those thunderstorms wouldn’t arrive until well after I usually arrive back home from my hike, but I really didn’t care; I was balls deep in slack and enjoying it.
Despite enjoying my slack, I was disappointed that if I didn’t get out for around 5 miles this weekend, I would miss a 25-mile week for the third straight week. Having said that, two weeks ago, I only lumbered 20 miles, but I also did a 27-mile dirt road ride on an empty stomach and bonked harder than any human has ever bonked for such a short ride. So, there’s that.
Still, I was determined to get out on Sunday morning, even if that meant getting on the trails by 6:30 AM to beat another day of intense heat, humidity, and a forest full of bugs and Bluetooth speaker-wielding weekend hikers. And that’s what I did.
I got just under 5 miles in my feetz by 8:10 AM and was once again soaked with sweat from head to toe. But hey, I got it done and finished the week with 25.71 miles of hiking.
Getting out early also meant that I was home in plenty of time for breakfast, a shower, and getting to the store for hoppy provisions before England and Spain kick off.
Only one pic of any quality today, but I sort of dig it.
Later.
