Today I forced myself out of my dirt road riding routine and into the woods around Mid Michigan Community College for a lap of leaf covered singletrack goodness. I was really shocked how many leaves were on the trails already and how many more are waiting to come down!
I got a later start than usual, so I knew I wouldn’t have time for a full lap, so instead of the Superfly I opted to go with the Fatterson and rolled big and heavy for a full body workout that some fitness experts estimate is only 19% less effective* than flipping a big fucking tractor tire by yourself in a near empty parking lot.
Some unforecasted drizzle had the leaves on the trail holding a lot of water and that made for some cold, damp meat sticks as I rolled along, but it was nice to have all that fatty grip beneath me. I’ve never been a fan of riding on leaf covered trails, but the fat tires of the Farley brought an increased confidence, and that made for a fun–albeit slow–ride… At least for a few miles.
Lugging a rigid fat bike around on singletrack is never really my first choice, but it was today and I actually had fun. Not sure I’m eager to roll it on the trails again anytime soon, but it was nice today. The next time it will be the Superfly for sure.
It’s always nice to be able to get in the woods, whether it’s hiking, riding or sacrificing a goat as part of a satanic black mass [joking].
Later.
