What is Wrong?

For the second day in a row, the Michiganderburgh winds were howling like a bean fueled anus in exit mode après an all you can eat chili bar with an endless Old Milwaukee keg that is two months past due. Gusts were getting well over 20 mph or more and a voice in my head was heard to say the phrase “FUCK THAT! I ain’t doin’ no dirt road ridin in THAT shit’.”

Instead, I went to MMCC, did a lap on the Farley and came home. For some unknown reason as much as I bitch about how riding a fat bike on singletrack sort of sucks, I keep freaking doing it! Why?

I’ve mentioned many, MANY times before, riding a fat bike on snow and sand is indeed– all fucking caps–FUN (in that you can successfully do it and not want to take a hostage or do something silly like ski). Riding a rigid fat bike on singletrack (to me) is like choosing to walk across the U.S. barefooted when you COULD fly, drive, bicycle, roller skate or at least wear fucking shoes whilst you do it. Still, I do it. Dumb.

Sure I could say “I’m still dialing the bike in!” Or “I need to justify buying the bike by riding it as much as possible!” But in truth, I don’t know why. Riding MMCC on the Superfly is fast (even when I am not), efficient and fun. Riding Mid on a fat bike is slow, lurching, tolerable an fun at times. The only thing that I can think of is that somewhere in the vast, unused and/or dead parts of my brain I believe that once the snow inevitably falls and I start riding snirt roads and racing the Farely it will feel all the easier. Probably not, I think I am just an idiot, I’m sure you do too.

Later.
