Tuesday I was pretty bogged down with home, work, and family stuff, so I snuck out for a quickie. Just before I got ready to roll, I checked the weather and it said there was a seven mile an hour wind coming from the east. That was fine with me, anything in the single digits around these parts is a blessing from the cycling gods above. However as I sat in the garage bucking down my shoes, I heard the garage door rattling. “Hmmm…. that’s a pretty strong seven mile an hour wind I thought to myself.”
Soon after I rolled through my dandelion filled yard (no doubt considered a blight on the cul-de-sac), onto the drive, and out into the road and I was greeting with a wind that was surely upwards of fifteen to twenty miles per hour rather than a mere seven. However knowing that the ride was only going to be in the 20-25 mile range I happily pedaled on into the chilly spring wind.
After a short round with the easterly crosswind I headed west and enjoyed five miles worth of tail wind and 20+ mile an hour speeds before I headed north again on pavement.
Then I headed east on dirt and saw my speeds drop from 22 heading west, to 17 heading north, to 11 heading east. It was sort of taint grinder at times, especially on the stretches of soft, tractor rutted dirt, but it did offer some increased calorie burning on an otherwise short ride.
Because I needed to be quick and shoot any photos whilst rolling I stuck my old, crusty and trusty Canon s95 in my back pocket. After using the Fuji X100s and X-T10 for most shooting, it’s hard to go back to the little s95 at first. But it at least I can shoot in RAW, and once I get home and have a few seconds to fool around with them I often still find shots that I dig. Well, dig well enough to use on a crap blog post.
Time to do some work.
Later.
