Post-Graduate Lumbercation

I had an excellent but busy weekend with B’s graduation and the celebration of said graduation.

The graduation was great, and bit overwhelming. There were over 1,300 grads just in the Com-Arts-Sci Department, and multiple other departments were having ceremonies all weekend long!

B’s ceremony was nice, and the words from the Dean of the school were positive and enlightening. In other words, they were in stark contrast to the absolute fascist bullshit that falls out of the mouth of our country’s leader and the vile pieces of shit that voted for him and blindly follow him.

It was great to see B so happy, to get to know his girlfriend a bit more, and to have my father-in-law in town to help celebrate. I can’t thank him enough for making the trip from Western PA. I’m 53 and don’t like to make that drive; I can’t imagine doing it solo at 76 (as if I’ll see my 70s!).

With the weekend behind me, I was eager to get in the woods on Monday, and I didn’t let my feet down, busting out another 7-mile lumber (7.04).

For most of the hike, I saw next to no critters to photograph. Nothing but some birds here and there and the random flash of a deer tail running through the woods for the first 5 miles. Finally, around mile 5.5, I saw a turtle sunbathing (crap shot through trees) and, a bit later, some photogenic deer. Other than that, it was some more nature nubbins and a random lost fishing net.

Time to catch up on a weekend’s worth of chores. Lola and I are flying solo until Friday, with Wifey in Baltimore for union business. Every time she goes out of town for union work, I worry she’ll be arrested by the Red Hats and deported. Of course, she IS American, but apparently, that doesn’t matter these days. I wonder if you get to pick where you get deported to? I’d like to get on the list for Spain or Portugal now, just in case. Oh, Spain… the food, the weather, the football, the cycling, the women, the culture!

Looking forward to a week of stockpiling woodsy miles in my feet and killing brain cells to forget who and what I am as well as the fucking world around me— especially the Red Hats.

Later.
