As previously noted in my last post, I ditched lumbering on Wednesday due to morning thunderstorms, followed by general malaise and a much-needed afternoon appointment with the OG Mindbender.

Back on Tuesday morning, just before the Covered Bridge Trail, I ran into a couple of snapping turtles laying eggs. I took a shot or two and then continued on to do the short loop. Less than 15 minutes and two photos later, I came back, and only one turtle remained. I looked all around and saw no sign of the other turtle. Then I headed back to the main trail system, and there she was “speeding” across the bridge.

Sure, she could have taken the quicker route via the river bank just 10 yards from where she was laying eggs, but I suppose if you spend most of your time underwater and you get the chance to cross a covered bridge, you go for it. I’m sure she shared her adventure with the other turtles that night as they dined on some crayfish.

I was able to get back in the wet woods on Thursday and had a relaxing lumber as light rain fell. Due to rain, I only took my old Canon S95 point-and-shoot, so OF COURSE, I saw an Osprey perched on a tree downriver and way too far for the little s95.

This is the second chance at an Osprey I missed this week. The last one was on Tuesday when I was looking at some discarded turtle eggs and failed to see that there was an Osprey just above me, about 35 yards to my right. Well, at least until it took off.
This week has been a busy one with multiple appointments and weather issues, but I’m not going to get too down about the lack of miles because last June, I only got 30 miles in for the entire month, and this June, I already have over 76.

Hoping for a few more miles in the coming days and some better luck with the critter photos.
Later.
