Miles & A Mojo-Saving Bumblebee

It’s been a good week of lumbering and a busy one for me around the Cul-De-Sac-Shack, getting some trees trimmed, grass mowed, and landscaping weeded, along with all my other domestic duties.

This week, I worked on some new loops at Deerfield and came up with one that I, remarkably, have never done before and really dig. A new loop or course is awesome for me because it breaks up the mile vs landmark recognition process that I’ve built up over the last 3,464 miles of lumbering; “Oh, there’s the ‘Va-Jay-Jay Tree,’ mile 2 coming up.”

Moving on…

Sadly, other than my trip to Sylvan to shoot some macro, the week has been less than stellar for picture-taking. But, as I always say, “some days/weeks it just be like that.”

Speaking of macro, after my lumber and breakfast today, I was out taking care of the front landscaping when I saw a bumblebee flying around the roses and other plants. So, being the nerd I am, I hurried into the house and grabbed my camera to try to get a shot.

It’s not my best bee shot, but it was something to get my creative mojo going after a slow couple of days and break up the monotony of trimming rose bushes that look like they fell out of someone’s ass.

In better news, the weather has changed for the better, and today’s lumber was roughly 20 degrees cooler than any other one this week. Thank goodness, ’cause I needed a break from the bugs, the sweat, and the layers upon layers of bug spray that I need to apply each morning.

Sunrise breaking through the morning clouds and mist.

I was also happy to check my Garmin files to see that I ended July with 110.40 miles of lumbering over 21 hikes, and 1 dirt road ride of 27.25 miles. I had hoped to get back to some more riding this month, but the heat was relentless, and my hulking body can’t handle the heat like it used to. Hopefully, in the coming weeks, I can start working in at least one ride a week until the snow flies. But if I don’t, I’ll sadly live on.

I’m at 21.17 miles on the week so far, so I’m pretty sure I’ll hit 25, plus I’d like to get out for a ride or some photo-creeping this week. I got to get as much out of the summer as I can, ’cause 6 months of dark and cold is only about 8-10 weeks away and my meat, shall not loaf!!

Later.
