Was it the worst best week ever or the best worst week ever? I dunno.
I do know that I am oddly at peace, even knowing how fucked up things are and how it could potentially get worse for me, my family, and the whole fucking world.
I’m at peace because I know despite whatever difficulties I may face, I will either conquer them or be beaten by them. Either way, I will know I faced them with the virtues and principles I hold close to me and try to live by intact.
Not the virtues and principles forced on us by schools, churches, media, or politicians, but the ones that make me say, No, I do not accept that way of thinking and will not be a part of it. However, I will do my best to live my life with joy, humor, silliness, creativity, and love for the people I hold dear and share this way of thinking (Thanks for reaching out this week; it was a real motivator and nice to not feel alone for the first time in ages. Muchos gracias)
Everyone is entitled to their way of thinking, even if it’s based on hate, narcissism, emotional manipulation, and financial greed, but I am by no means obligated to join them. As always, I will continue to be my own man, doing my own thing. And in the end, that makes me one of the most successful men in the world, dispite the lack of diplomas on my wall or millions in my bank account.
As the old saying goes, “Give a hungry man a fish, he’ll eat it. Make a man laugh, and he’ll be hungry. Laughing, but hungry.”
Enough with the Dr. Phil meets Epictetus talk, I digress.
I somehow found great tranquility in the woods this week and hit 26.09 miles after Friday morning’s 4.90-mile lumber. I took very few photos this week, but unlike weeks in the recent past, it was purely due to not seeing much that tickled my sagging creative man-nugs.
I also completed what I hope is the last of the leaf cleanup in the yard of the Cul De Sac Shack on Friday and tacked on another 1.5 miles of walking in the process. Something that made enjoying a can of 2024 Bell’s Hopslam all the better while watching shit football later in the day.
As I type, it’s 7:00 AM; I’m hopped up on coffee and have a Big as My Head Breakfast Burrito on my mind. Then, a day of footy watching lies ahead. EDIT: I changed my mind last minute and went with half of a Big As Your Head Potato, Ham, and Cheese Nelly “Don’t Call Me Furtado” Frittata.
FINAL NOTE: I have to recommend The Daily Stoic. I’m no philosopher (at least while sober), but this article on Perseverance was just what I needed this week.
Later.
THE SOILED MUST WATCH VIDEO OF THE POST
And to give me some of those feel-good emotions, I’m posting this video that Brennan shot and edited for MSU during the Izzone Campout last month. Every time I watch it, it leaves me in awe that my boy did it!
