Baked & Salted

It’s funny how quickly things change. It seems like only yesterday I was riding my Farley over frozen dirt roads, with five layer, of woolen, wicking, hi-tech, extreme cold weather gear and still freezing my tits off in 1˚ weather. Today I rode 45 miles of pavement and dirt roads (about 65% pavement today) and came home a sweaty, fat piece of salty baked ham in human form. Believe me, that is in NO way complaining, I loved every hot, sweaty, ham-like moment of those 45 miles! I’m just sayin’.

It was 81˚ degrees by the time I got home from my ride. Just two days ago it was like 50˚. I will just say again (as I Tweeted earlier), 81˚ in Michigan is sort of like riding on the surface of the sun when you are used to being cold roughly 10.5 months of the year. To put it all in perspective, not long ago, I was out riding in my kit, a wind stopper base layer and knee warmers and I was still a tad cold. During that ride in temps trying like hell to reach 50˚, I passed at least two different men working outside shirtless and not thinking anything of it. I don’t know what those half-naked, hair suited men did today, but I bet you it was SUPER FUCKING MACHO!!

I’m not sure, why, but the past two days I had two good rides of 32 and 45 miles, and felt great, yet I felt really disconnected to the whole process. It’s like I kitted up, did the rides, came home, went about my business and that’s it. Even my photos (especially from today) turned out crap. That’s not to say the rides were bad in any way (except for the pics), just odd. I think I really need some singletrack.

I’m really hoping to sneak out for some trail time this weekend at some point. Most likely Sunday, as B-Man has an away match on Saturday, so there’s roughly four hours of travel, warm ups, game and more travel out of the afternoon. I am also hoping to get the Farley out for a quick photo ramble over the next few days, as I took delivery of a Porcelain Rocket DSLR Slinger today and I’m really looking forward to more rides with my D3200 at the ready. I’m also REALLY looking forward to having Wifey back in town tomorrow after a week away in California doing what Wifey does.

I’m going to try to squeeze in a quick ride in tomorrow, but the amount of things I need to do tomorrow is vast. Of course one of those things is going down to the shop in beautiful downtown Alma, Michigan, and that is always pretty OK. Of course a trip to the shop always costs me money… and I’m SURE it will tomorrow as I just had an XTR big ring replaced on my El Mariachi! $tupid XTR.

Later.
