I woke on Tuesday morning at 5:55 to the soothing sounds of a steady spring rain falling. I flirted with the idea of preempting my 6AM alarm, farting, rolling over and going back to bed, happy to spend a little longer under the covers as the rain pelted the windows. Instead, I turned off the alarm, farted, and got out of bed.
Lola was fed, coffee was downed, dumps were taken, and soon I was on my way to the trails, eager to get some soggy miles in my feetz.
As expected, my normal parking area was empty of everything but mud puddles as I drove past, opting for a different parking area near a pavilion that I could utilize to get my pack and camera situated on my body without getting any valuables wet.
There were some small flowers in a pile on one of the picnic tables that, in MY mind, were a calling card from a serial killer. Clearly, I’ve been watching too many British crime shows! Hmm, do I have to pay a tariff for watching shows produced by the BBC? I’m sure it’ll happen because, you know, they are filled with propaganda. I do tend to commit treason after every episode of Endeavour I watch, so I guess there’s something to it.
Once packed, I was on my way, and hoping for a loop close to yesterday’s 7 miles.
For a camera, I took the z50 and the 16-50mm kit lens, packed inside a small camera bag worn under my rain jacket. Once I got used to looking like I had a second stomach attached to my torso, it wasn’t too bad.
Sadly, I didn’t take many shots, as the rain was pretty heavy, and to be honest, I don’t like that lens that much.
Despite the lack of photos, I got six miles in my feetz, and the rain never stopped once, only varying in intensity between downpour and steady drizzle. Even my rain jacket was soaking through by the end.
I would have preferred more photo ops, but I still loved every rain-soaked moment. Because, as we all know, a rainy hike in the spring/summer woods is pretty damn sweet.
The weather looks to be pretty amazing for the next several days, so I’m looking forward to some sun and slightly dryer conditions. And hopefully some better luck with photos!
Later.
