Digressing

I’ve been laying low on the posting as of late, mostly because I’ve done even less than I normally do. Sure, I made it to the gym a few times, but who cares if an aging, fat white dude goes to the gym or not? Actually, who cares if an aging, fat white dude does anything? I digress.

After a week filled with back spasms and shoulder issues, the next week greeted me with more bad luck and a slight summer head cold, followed a few days later by what I can only imagine was food poisoning; all I know is that my body felt like it was trying to expel a feces-covered demon via my intestinal track for 8 hours. I continue to digress.

Once I finally started feeling better, it was time to focus my attention on moving B to Michigan State last weekend along with 9,800 other freshmen. The move went well, his roommates seem nice, and he’s happy to finally get started, even if I think he might be a little overwhelmed by living in a building filled with so much unchecked masculinity and testosterone in the air. Or maybe I’m projecting.

Somewhere between all the back spasms, shoulder popping, summer colds, colorectal demon removal, and held back tears of pride, love, and sadness, I got a short walk in at the Sylvan preserve.

I took a few shots, but nothing was really working for me. Late August can be a strange transitional time in the woods. The temps are still summer-like, and we still have weeks before the fall colors start creeping in, but many of the plants and smaller trees have started to burn up, and there seems to be a lack of critters about, even though I did see a nice turtle as I made my way down towards the banks of the Chip.

While I am no fan of autumn (the Sunday of seasons), and dog knows I hate the endless Michigan winter, I am hoping the months ahead will be healthy ones and that I can figure out a life plan that can help fill the void of being a full-time father and keep me out of The Bell Jar. Who knows, with more time on my hands, I MIGHT even end my 11-month-long break from my bike and go for a spin in the woods sometime. Of course, these days, I am a ripe candidate to stroke out while riding. I guess there are worse things.

Today’s pics are from around the house and my short walk around the Sylvan Solace Preserve.

Later.
