Today I went down to my LBS and picked up a demo fat bike to race with this weekend. It’s a cheap, very heavy (and very fat) Charge Cooker Maxi (Charge is under the Cannondale umbrella… sort of like Huffy or some such brand). While this bike would not be my first, second or third choice if I were to ever by a fat bike, it should do just fine for my little fat bike experiment here. Of course, I haven’t even sat on it yet, let alone taken a ride on it, so for all I know I might love it. What I do know, is that looking down at the ridiculously sized four-inch tires is freakish to say the least. I bet you the spin up real fast.
I planned on doing the Crystal Mountain fat bike race on Sunday, but then saw there is also one tomorrow down at Pando. Now I am sort of kicking around the idea of doing that one instead. I always prefer to race on Saturdays given the chance. Not sure why, I just do. Plus, it’s a little closer and a little cheaper.
Hmm… I guess I should put my pedals on the borrowed beast before I do anything.
Hey look, I’m reading stuff!
Yesterday I finally took deliver of the book Maglia Rosa by Hebie Sykes. I’ve been waiting for this book for a long time. The first edition had been sold out forever, but I finally got my hands on a second edition and it is most excellent. The Giro d’Italia has long been my favorite Grand Tour, mostly because the route is usually just bat shit crazy compared to the others. I’ll get more into that in the near future but now I am just going to enjoy reading this amazing book.
