Sunday was another perfect summer day for being outside, and I had a woodsy walk with a camera (or two) on my mind.
My original plan was just to hit one of my usual locations, but at the last minute, I decided to go to the Forest Hill Nature Area just outside of Alma.
I had only been to Forest Hill one other time; last fall when I was nursing an ankle sprain. Needless to say, that was poor planning and a painful hike. This time would be different and a hell of a lot more enjoyable!

I had some luck capturing a red-winged blackbird and an American Copper butterfly early in the walk, and then just as I entered the North Woods trail, I heard some splashing. I looked up and saw a fawn nervously staring back at me from across the swampy water.
I fired off a few shots, and then just stood and watched for a little bit enjoying the silence of the dark woods and some one on one time with the little critter.
Next up, it was some frogs, some flowers, more butterflies, a one-legged equestrian and her friend out riding, bees, spiders, a family of geese, some more birds, dragonflies, and some more flowers. I was gone for hours, walking around the woods shooting photos.

When I got home, Wifey said I was gone so long she thought I might have split. I laughed and said, “Of course not! Well, not yet.” To which she replied, “A girl can dream,” or something like that.

After lunch, I was back outside to finish the lawn and trim the weeds before an evening of making dinner, processing photos, and killing brain cells.

Even though my moods go up and down like an emotionally wrecked hooker, it was a pretty good weekend. I just wish I would have enjoyed more of it at the time.
