Multi-Surface Monday

gravelroadoflust

With Wifey out of town until late Wednesday night, I won’t be working any hours at the shop until late in the week. For while B is old enough to stay extended hours on his own, over nine hours on his own, with the closest parent 25 minutes away, is a bit extreme. No big deal, this gives me a chance to catch up on stuff around the house, hang out with B, and get a few 30-35 mile multi-surface loops in my legs.

Getting one of those rides in was exactly what I did today, with a quick-ish 34 mile ride in north of town. Things were pretty perfect for riding: the sun was out, the wind was tolerable and other than a few sandy sports, most of the dirt roads were packed and rolling fast.

CROP REPORT: It’s corn and it’s growing fine.

I had some minor shifting issues my last time out on the Boone, but a quick pre-ride adjustment had things shifting smooth and precise throughout the ride (I was pretty shocked that I didn’t fuck it up more). I have been more than happy with the Shimano 105 group [shifters and derailleurs] that came on the Boone 5 Disc. Until that last ride I have had no shifting issues at all, and that is saying something since I should top 1,000 miles on it early next week at the latest. I can’t say enough about how much I love riding this bike, it really has made this season’s riding more fun. So I guess you would be right in saying that the bike was totally worth picking up.

Sun’s out, udder’s out. Suckle at your own risk.

However I do need to break up my multi-surface rides a bit, I’ve been doing slight variations on the same loop since B’s school let out. Mostly because I know how long it takes me, and barring a mechanical, I can tell B-Man what time I’ll be home with little worry. I guess there’s something to be said for that, but still, I need to shake things up a bit.

Thinking about heading out for a fat bike ramble tomorrow. It’s been a few weeks since I loaded up the fatty with my D3200 gear and headed out into the wilds of rural Michiganderburgh to snap some pics. As much as I love rolling and shooting pics with my Canon s95, I love the quality that the Nikon offers me.

Dude, I think I might be stuck in this thing! Little help please…

Then again, I might just pinch off another quick ride but REALLY mix things up and ride south of town rather than north. God, I really need to stop living this extreme, go-go lifestyle of mine.

Later.
