Monday evening the illness that B-Man picked up while camping last week took over my body; I was less than thrilled. I slept about two hours Monday night as post-nasal drip ran down the back of my throat like a river of sludge. Good times, good times.
Tuesday was spent lying around, aching, wiping snot off of myself and muttering obscenities as I waited for a socially acceptable time to go to bed (7:45 PM).
After ten hours of sleep I was up and not so at ’em this morning. Two cups of coffee and some DayQuil later, I felt reasonably OK and set about getting some shit done. Along with the getting done of fecal matter, I also promised myself that, sick or not, I would leave the house today, even if it was just for a short walk about at Hall’s Lake Natural Area.
I packed up my cameras and headed out for some time in the Michigan woods. It wasn’t strenuous or any sort of workout, but I was outside for the first time in about thirty-six hours, so that was something.
I’ve ridden by this area numerous times over the years and explored it a bit a couple weeks ago, but never really took the time to hike around and see what it has to offer. The area isn’t huge, but it does offer a chance walk around in the woods, check out some wildlife, take some pics and goof off outside.
The mushrooms and fungus continue to sprout up and the acorns continue to fall. The leaves, for the most part, are still green and on the trees, but I suppose as the temperatures continue to dip, they will be soon be changing.
I had been planning to ride mountain bikes with my buddy from the shop on Thursday, but in light of my current illness I felt it best to abort. I am starting to feel better–or at least the medicine is working–so I am am HOPEFUL that my Thursday will allow for at least a quick dirt road ride. As much as I like stomping around in the woods taking pics of fungus, my growing waistline demands more miles (or bigger pants).
Later.
