After Thursday’s all-day rain event, which featured thunder and some of the hardest downpours I’ve seen in a long time, I was stoked to be back in the woods early on Friday morning.
As with any spring hike, I’m always eager to see birds that only visit Michigan for spring breeding or summer months. I was lucky enough to see and capture my first Yellow Bellied Sapsucker earlier in the week, and today I got my first sighting/photo of an Eastern Phoebe. That is not to say that I knew I was taking a photo of an Eastern Phoebe, that would make me way smarter than everyone in the world knows I actually am, but I DID take its photo and then look it up and read about it. So, there’s that. I guess I’m smart in reverse.

I wasn’t thrilled with missing Thursday’s lumber, but in hindsight, I’m glad I skipped it. It poured rain all day, and I got a shit ton of stuff done around the Cul-De-Sac-Shack. Not to mention, I still got in 27.04 miles in four hikes this week and still have two days to go if I want 30.
Having said that, I think Saturday is supposed to be very similar to Thursday, with rain most of the day, but given that I only need 3 miles to hit 30, I should be able to squeeze a quick lumber in somewhere if I’m lucky/not lazy.
Later.
