Taking Advantage

In between my days at the gym I have been trying to get out and enjoy the dirt before the snow flies. As you can see from the ground in the pic above, it has been flying here and there but it has a long way to go before it causes any worry or would make me think about maybe regretting not purchasing a fat bike.

With this being “Deer Day Eve” here in Michigan, I thought I would post a photo for the hunters out there. See if you can find the deer in the pic below…

Hint, it’s on the right. Now shoot!

Speaking of Deer Day, the MMCC trail gnomes were forced to temporarily reroute a mile of the 16ish mile loop due to it butting right up against some private land that is heavily hunted. I suppose it’s worth losing a mile not to take a bullet to the chest. Of course I am a bit uneasy about even being that close to a bunch of trigger happy hunters.

Some of the trailside swamps have their first layers of ice.

It was nice to get a ride in and cool to be able to continue getting the new rig dialed in. So far, I have learned that I either need to get different bar ends or cut .25″ off the Bontrager ones I picked up. They are just a SMIDGE (by smidge I guess I mean a quarter of an inch) longer than the ones on my El Mariachi, but it’s enough to monkey with my comfort. I am also trying to hunt down a Thomson setback post like the one that was on the bike when I demoed it. Currently bidding on a used one on eBay but not sure if I will end up with it or not [Edit: I did not]. I have no problem with used, but I have a problem with paying almost retail for used. With any luck I will have the bike all dialed in before the snow DOES fly and I will be able to go into spring with it ready to go. Christ, I just hope that I am ready to go. But that is a WHOLE other issue.

On a final note, it seems that road and trailside undies are out, and unused condoms near trailhead parking lots are in…

Yikes, either things didn’t work out like the dude planned, things worked out “too soon” or a last-minute decision to go bare back was made. Makes me wonder what goes on in that parking lot.
