Goals, Milestones, And Shoes

Today’s 6.10-mile lumber was dank, grey, and fairly lifeless in the woods. I saw a couple deer sprinting away from a distance and a black-capped chickadee flitting around in some brush, and that was it. I took one shitty photo which is not shown here due to said shittiness. Instead you get a backyard Turdus captured weeks ago.

But I said I would do it, and I did it; 25.06 miles in 4 days, and my weekly lumbering goal was met. Yay, me.

Of course, my Garmin calendar says I did 28.32 miles, but that’s if I include Monday’s 3.27-mile treadmill run, which I do not because I like to keep shit real.

As mentioned yesterday, I also went over 1,000 miles lumbered in 2024 today (191 lumbers/1000.99 miles/averaging 5.24 miles per lumber). More yay, mes? Heck, yeah!

Once home from the hike, I made a quick breakfast, changed shoes, and was once again in the yard of the Cul De Sac Shack tending to leaves. They just keep coming, thanks to a neighborhood without fences (an open border if you will), a ton of wonderful trees, and the fact that our cursed, semen-scented pear trees take forever to fully lose their leaves, and the weather has yet to turn shitty enough to where I can say “Fuck it, they’ll rot in the snow.”

Even the friendly lady who works at the Recycling Center asked me, “Are you done yet?” To which I replied, “Sadly, no. Probably one more trip next week.”

In Other Pointless News

I had some use-or-lose-it “bonus points” from an online shoe store and got $11 off another pair of North Face Altamesa 500s. Of all the shoes I’ve tried since September of 2022, these have been the best for my feet. No blisters, no heel pain, no arch pain, no corns. Nuthin’ but miles of hiking, lumbering, and running. They are my #1 shoe, with the SUUUUPERRRRRRR plush New Balance Fresh Foam X Trail More v3 being the alternate pair to keep my feet on their toes. (Wait, what?)

I bought my original pair of Altamesa’s in early August and they probably have another hundred or so miles in them, but I wanted to save 11 bucks while I could. Yay, me.

Glad to have my goal for the week met, and now I can look forward to the Premiere League’s return from International Break, slacking, goofing off, and MAYBE a quick treadmill run to burn off the large number of IPAs that are destined to be enjoyed.

Sadly, I will be alone since Wifey is visiting her father in Pennsylvania over the weekend. Oh well, at least I can unapologetically listen to music at loud volumes until her return.

Later.
