Doing It Again

The Groundhog Day, that is winter in mid-Michigan, continues to drag on. Sadly, it continues to drag on without the comedic skills of Bill Murray and the L’Oréal good looks and charm of Andie MacDowell.

Since we’re here, let’s do this again.

I once again pulled into an empty, frozen parking lot before 8 AM with temps hovering around 14˚. I strapped on the micro-spikes and took off down the main path to the balls of the trails, spikes crunching loudly on the thick layer of ice and scaring every critter in a 3-mile radius.

In hopes of breaking up the Groundhog Day repetition, I mixed the loop up today, and also added a nice weave of crossover and unofficial trails and really enjoyed it.

As I lumbered along, I told myself that I would NOT take any photos of deer today, just for the sake of mixing things up. That lasted about a mile, and then I saw my first deer of the day and couldn’t resist a shot.

The trails were even better today and, for the most part, were nice and firm.

In one of the crossover trails, I took a photo with my phone. I then decided I should take a photo of my giant face because everyone loves a self-shot big giant old man face.

I took the shot, put my phone away, and continued on. It wasn’t until I looked at my phone later that I realized I had taken the saddest selfie in the world. I was actually really enjoying myself, but in the pic, I have a look on my face that longs for a warm bath and a razor blade. Cheer up, Emo kid.

I ended up with 5.11 miles, another deer photo, the saddest selfie ever taken, and only needing 4.26 miles to hit my winter abbreviated 20-mile goal for the week. If I choose to end it early.

Later.
