Monday Nubbins

I was fed up with the lingering post-flu cough I had, so on Saturday morning, I took a not-so-speedy trip to the local Urgent Care, where I arrived just as their computer system crashed, thus preventing me or any of the 4 people ahead of me from being processed and seen in an “Urgent” manner.

So, with no real plans, I settled in and sat for over an hour in the waiting room as Nickelodeon cartoons blared from the TV at a volume that would rival any Metallica show. Only instead of wanting to head bang to Creeping Death, I wanted to literally bang my head against a wall until all that remained was a bloody stump of a neck between my shoulders. Thankfully, that was all avoided, and I did finally get to see a doctor and got some meds that will hopefully clear out whatever the flu morphed into.

I woke on Monday morning to the soothing sound of a thunderstorm moving through the area and was hopeful for a umber in the rainy woods. Sadly, the balls of the rain moved on before I made it to the trails at 7:30 and it was sort of sunny by the end.

The woods remained quite wet, so I alternated between trying to get some shots with an old vintage macro lens and looking for critters with my normal setup.

Around mile 3, I was surprised to come around the corner of a trail near the river and see two turkeys strutting down the trail in a manner that looked like they had lost their friends in the flock. Eventually, they wandered into the woods, and I never saw or heard them again.

Other than the turkeys, it was pretty lame in the woods, with only some robins and bluejays flying around and a deer here and there, too obscured by brush and trees for a good shot. I did my best to get some macro shots of nature nubbins and then headed home for breakfast and a day of doing crap.

I ended the lumber with 5.18 miles and some OK shots.

Later.
