The weekend was the weekend, and as weekends go, it was a pretty good weekend. Know-what-I-mean?
Saturday’s footy was pretty crap, so I headed out to Meridian Park for a photo creep.
Sadly, there was some sort of CMU Alumni thing going on in some part of the park, so I was limited to one hunk of trail that yielded no photos, and no critter sightings other than a couple of Red Winged Black Birds who were still hanging around, when usually they’ve moved a bit further down state by now.
With that creep being a bust, I headed down the road to my normal lumbering grounds to creep. Oddly, there was hardly anyone there when I arrived, and I took off down the trail hauling 6 pounds of camera and lens.

Again, I saw next to nothing, other than ONE deer, and one skitish Great Blue Heron that flew away as soon as it heard me.
It also felt really strange being on the trails for a creep rather than a lumber. It sort of felt like going into the office on the weekend. All that was missing was running into an office manager “dressed down” in a white guy, nylon whoosh-whoosh track suit and uncool New Balance “dad” sneakers as he tries to finish up his PowerPoint presentation for the Monday morning sales meeting.
I didn’t get much that I was happy with, and bailed after a few miles of creeping around.

Thankfully, I had some luck with The Bird Stick on the deck of the Cul De Sac Shack, and got a couple shots of a Nuthatch and a male Downy Woodpecker doing their thing.
Sunday was a complete day of slack, beer, and footy, with Spurs winning 3-0 over Everton and moving up to 3rd in the table. Woot!!

Monday, I’m back at Deerfield, this time without that Work on the Weekend feeling in my stomach, and I got a 6.31-mile loop in to start the week.

The morning temperature was right around 30˚, and there was a thick layer of frost on just about everything. The temps meant that this was the first bobble-hat hike of the fall/winter season.
This SHOULD be the last week that I have to start the hike in the pitch dark. At least I hope. I’ve grown to dig lumbering around in the dark with my headlamp, but that means that I only get about 3 miles worth of light for picture-taking.

It was a pretty good start to the week, and I’m looking forward to more miles and more chances to take crap photos in the days to come.
Later.
