NOTE: As you can see, I am in the middle of some long overdue house cleaning here on Soiled. Things aren’t going to look “normal” for a while, but I hope to have my PHP updated and changed over to a theme that is not 15 years old in the near future. Or not.
Moving on…
Funny how a week can change like that *snaps old chubby fingers together*.
Tuesday night, as I was just about ready for bed, our power went out for no reason. No storms, no wind, no nothing. I figured some idiot crashed into a pole or something, and it would be back on in 45 minutes. It was not.
I went to bed sure that the power would be back at some point during the night. Again, it was not.
I woke up Wednesday morning still without power, and needed to take action to prevent food spoilage, etc., whilst Wifey went into the office to work since we obviously had no power.
According to the electric company, 99.83% of their service area had power. The Cul De Sac Shack was in the .17% of homes without power, and an estimated repair time of 11 PM Wednesday night. EE-LEVEN PEE-EMMM!! Shit!!

Luckily, the house was not too hot inside, and the partly cloudy day prevented the afternoon sun from baking the west side of the house in the afternoon.
I salvaged as much food as possible in coolers full of ice, but some items were going to take a hit for sure.
Wifey and I made the best of the evening with her doing a puzzle (nerd!) on the kitchen table by candlelight and me cursing the electric company for perceived incompetence as I drank beer and shoveled a rotiserie chicken and takeout sides into my fat face like I never ate before. Who knew I could eat that much corn?
Soon, we hit the 24-hour mark with no power, and I headed to bed with the dog and a battery-operated fan to stay cool.
Wifey woke me up around 11 to tell me the lights flickered a bit, but sadly, the power would not truly come on until about 3:45 Thursday morning, 30+ hours after it had gone out for what the power company called “equipment failure.” To which I say, “No fucking shit!”

I woke up at 5:30 AM on Thursday to a house filled with random lights on, blinking clocks, the AC running, and our bedroom windows wide open. 15 minutes later, I also realized that while the power was on, our ISP was down, and as of 9:55 AM, there has been no status update other than them saying that there is no status update. [It returned at 11:45 AM]
With that, Wifey headed into the office again, and I skipped a lumber to catch up on all the chores I couldn’t do yesterday due to lack of electricity, plus clean out the food in the fridge, and go to the grocery store to restock the shit I had to throw away.
I did get a quick 5-mile lumber in on Wednesday morning, but it was hard to really enjoy.
I realize that in a world filled with wars, flooding, wildfires, and political unrest, our electric being out for 30 hours is legit First World Problems-type bullshit. It won’t stop me from bitching about it, but please know that I do recognize its unimportance in the grand scheme of things.
Later.
