A Lost Tuesday

Monday night, I kind of found myself in a foul mood (shock!) and stayed up a little too far past my 9 PM bedtime.

The next thing I knew, it was 4:30 AM, and Wifey was getting ready to head to the airport to fly to Baltimore for a weeklong meeting. I kissed her goodbye, looked at the weather, and saw that severe storms were due in the area by 11 AM. Shit.

A classic Peanuts strip from 1960.

At this point, I knew I’d have time to get my lumber in, but not enough time to mow the long-ass grass before the storms set in. I was also feeling the effects of staying up later than usual and was in no mood to lumber.

So, I got up at 5:30, fed Lola, and then headed back to bed for another 90 minutes. Then got up again at 7, regretted not hiking, ate breakfast, and then waited around for a respectable time to start up the lawnmower. Literally 10 minutes after I finished the lawn, it started storming. I guess I can call that a win.

With the foul mood and lawn out out of the way, I was back in the woods on Wednesday for 5.78 miles. It was supposed to be 6+, but I must have missed that right turn at Albuquerque. I also saw shit to photograph, so there is one phone pic of the sunrise coming through the misty trees as I hiked.

Later.

THE SOILED SOUNDS TRACK OF THE POST

The other night I was listening to some music, and some recommended songs came on after. As I listened, I was like, “Who the hell is this!!?? TELL ME NOW!” The band was Getdown Services, out of Bristol, England.

To me, the song was a laidback mix of old Beck, lo-fi Do Nothing, and a few others. I also loved a few of the lines in the song the song I Wish It Didn’t Bother Me.

“I wonder why I came tonight
I guess I felt like having some fun
I’m only watching it
I’m not having it
That ain’t the way it’s gonna get done.”

So many great lines in the song, and I’m enjoying exploring their catalog.

Lastly, when I saw the cover of the album Crisps, I knew I had seen that image before. It turns out I used a photo of the same statue in a blog post about 18 years ago as I blathered on about frites for some reason. Great minds and all that shit.
