A Lumber and Chili

I was NOT in the mood to head out into the cold this morning. My bones ached, my joints creaked, my mind craved sleep, and my colon was a fecal-spewing trainwreck. No, I wasn’t sick; 53 just be like that some mornings.

Despite the aches and spewing, I was on the trail just before 8 AM, in conditions that seemed downright warm (18˚) compared to yesterday’s 5˚.

In the first half of the hike, I saw next to nothing other than the squirrels and one or two deer from a distance running through the woods. It wasn’t until around mile two that I saw a female Downy Woodpecker in the trees above peckin’ her face off.

I took a few pics and hoped that my luck would improve, but that was it. The only other animal I saw the rest of the hike was Lola (not mine), the friendly pitbull belonging to The Guy My Imagination Accused of Living in The Park as we passed a short time later.

Once home, a hot shower and some meds helped those aches and pains, and I was off to run errands like a herd of dead turtles.

I finished the lumber with 4.88 miles in my feetz. I hope to get some more miles in tomorrow before we get hit with another round of heavy snow (5 to 7 inches) Wednesday afternoon and evening.

Later.

CAT 5 COOKING INTERLUDE

After having my patented Soiled Big Mac for lunch, 7 out of the last 8 lunches (The one day I didn’t make one; I had a burger at Crunchy’s), I decided I needed a break. Actually, that’s a lie, the lack of tomatoes in the house decided that I would not have a Soiled Big Mac.

With that, I made up some Soiled (Lunch) Chili with some leftover veggies in the fridge and the serving size dialed back for lunch with the help of a kitchen scale and mynetdiary.com. I am like a dog when it comes to chili. You can put anywhere from 2 to 1,500 ounces in front of me, and I WILL eat all of it.

Ingredients As Made (732 grams):

15.5 oz. Mixed Chili Beans Mild Chili Sauce by Bush’s
4 oz. 90% Lean Ground Beef
65 grams of Green Peppers
61 grams of Red Peppers
40 grams of Yellow onion
1 Tablespoon Extra virgin olive oil
Chili Powder
Salt and Pepper
A Little bit of water

Making a small batch really helped me keep my gluttonous tendencies in check, and it really hit the spot. Not to mention there are leftovers for lunch tomorrow or if Wifey wants it for dinner tonight.

Nutrients per 366-gram serving.
