This week has been a blur of morning lumbers, never-ending outdoor chores, and teaching old dogs new tricks. Or should I say, teaching an old fat guy who is dumb as a box of hair how to install custom CSS code in order to get this digital fish wrap looking tolerable? Oh, technology… piss off!
While my brain hurts a bit from the endless searches for snippets of code that mean fuck all to me, just to make a font size bigger or a different color, when I do get it working proper, I get a little dopamine hit of “Maybe I’m not as fucking stupid as I think I am?” But then I fuck something else up. So, yes, I am as stupid as I, and 99% of the world knows I am. Such is life.
My lumbers on Tuesday and Wednesday were pretty good, but I continue to struggle to find willing subjects to photograph. I did get another shot of a doe and fawn nibbling leaves along the river, and that’s always cool to see, but most of the time, even when I find a critter, the woods have been too dark for a proper image.

Tuesday morning had a mix of heavy fog from the warm days and cool nights, and haze from the Canadian wildfires blazing, and it made for some interesting photo-ops, but I’ve hiked in the fog many a time at Deerfield and don’t particularly need more shots of it.
Another cool thing on Tuesday was when I arrived at the park and made my way down the dirt service road to the parking lot, a large owl flew out from the trees and for a good 30 yards or so flew directly down the road in front of me as I drove. It was so awesome to watch it silently move through the morning haze.

Wednesday wasn’t as good, or as hazy, and I saw next to nothing other than a couple of woodpeckers high in the trees. I also had to cut my hike to a 4.87-mile loop because I needed to take a bailout trail to the car and home due to some serious percolating in the gut. Coffee, man, it gets me every time!
I once again apologize for the change in format and look of the blog; it’s a work in progress. I’m sure most folks could give a shit, but when you’ve spent most of your life designing stuff for print, the absolute absurdity of needing HTML and CSS code to make something look a certain way hurts my brain and makes it clear to me why I don’t currently have, or will ever have, a design job again! I was hoping to ride the old them out until the blog’s imminent death, but here we are.
There’s a reason dumbasses like me went to art school, gahdamnit!!
Later.
