Cold Hikes & Painted Rooms

Ah, the mid-week update of my mundane life/micro-adventures. It’s the post that no one needed or wanted (not even me), but since I’m not in the people-pleasing business, I’m posting it anyway.

I was back in the woods for a lumber early on Tuesday morning for another 5+ mile loop, and managed to do the whole loop without hearing one gunshot, so that had my nervous system feeling pretty good.

Sadly, there was not much critter activity save for a couple of doe here and there doing doe-type shit and some geese. The sunrise was pretty amazing though! (see crap photo)

Once home and fed, I was off to Home Despot to pick up some primer and paint supplies as I finally got around to starting the paint job on B’s old bedroom.

The damage that a then-adolescent/teen boy can do to walls! Bad tape removal, ill-advised nail usage, adhesive strip damage, stains from cheap candles, etc. To his credit, when B moved out, he left small Post-It notes of apology by each damaged bit on the wall! Love that kid, can’t wait to see him next week!1

I did the drywall repairs and sanding a while back, but then got caught up in leaf removal for a few weeks. So, it felt good to finally get the priming process going before I paint later this week.

Wednesday was a near carbon copy of Tuesday, except there were a couple gun gunshots in the distance to make the ol’ bung pucker, a light coating of snow on the ground, and no post-hike trip to the Despot. Not to mention the second coat of primer was much easier, having all my supplies out and ready to go.

Due to hunting season, I’ve been doing an abbreviated loop this week to avoid sections of the trail near private property open to hunters. The loop still comes in at over 5 miles, but I feel like a slacker. I did up my lumbering speed a bit today, so that felt good, but I’m looking forward to getting back to my normal 6-mile loops and my 30 Miles in 5 Days goal. It’s way too early to enact the Winter Contingency Act, but it’ll do for now.

Later.

  1. NOTE: If you remember, B’s working on a mini-doc called For The Law of The Game. It’s still happening, but behind schedule due to him being sick for a week and working a long stretch of full-time hours at the part-time editing gig he’s working at Lansing PBS.
