Finishing Early

It’s not the first time it’s happened to me, but this week, I once again suffered from Premature Mile Accumulation (PMA). Unlike more awkward premature “ations,” PMA leaves me feeling quite good about myself but similarly leaves me questioning, now what do I do, but with fewer sheepish apologies.

Without really trying, I started off the 2024 Lumber Through Hell Tour by hiking 30 miles in 5 days.

Tuesday 5.28
Wednesday 6.40
Thursday 5.27
Friday 6.10

I was stoked and part of me thought it might be cool to rip off a 40-mile week to start what will no doubt be another year of hellfire, protests, marches, misinformation, and orange-tinted racist criminals with blood on their tiny hands running for political office; basically, 2016 and 2020, all over again, but this time with a big helping of “fuck it, we’re all going to die” by me.

However, I recognize my age, weight, and the real possibility for injury, so I will be taking the weekend to recover, watch the 30+ FA Cup matches that are on ESPN+, make some food, and drink some pints. And unlike ruining the last 3 minutes of date night in 10 seconds because someone didn’t take measures to ensure the pipes were clean, I can bask in the fact that 16 months ago or so, I couldn’t hike 5 miles at a walking pace without stopping to stretch out my back and curse my feet, and now I can do more than that at a lumbering pace (3.5 -4+ MPH) and want more at the end. It’s a long way from the years of 100-mile mountain bike races, but I’m happy (enough) for now.

As the week went on, I also started to enjoy my camera again and decided that I would rather repeat some subject matter in the name of keeping my skills butterknife sharp than not shoot at all.

Later.

THE SOILED SOUNDS VIDEO OF THE POST

The instrumental funk hip-hop band OMA from Manchester, England, doing covers of the late hip-hop legend MF Doom, is pretty amazing and makes for great music to chill and/or shake your booty to.

The audio of this performance is available on Bandcamp, but I dug into seeing the video first due to the bits of knowledge they shared about the original songs that MF Doom had sampled, and they are now playing live.

OMA are super-talented musicians who also have a new album of their own out now titled Bread ‘n’ Butter.

I don’t always listen to instrumental hip-hop funk music,
but I know I really dig this. –
