Today, I finally hit my “normal” 30-mile weekly lumbering goal for the first time since the start of January.
The six weeks in between were filled with snowshoe slogs, gravel tramps, blizzards, wintry mental beatdowns, and too many beers, but it feels good to finally be back.
I couldn’t think of a better way to hit my goal than today’s short 3.30-mile moonset/sunrise hike in crisp 12˚ temps, followed by heading home to celebrate by making a breakfast burrito the size of my head filled with homemade refried beans, crispy homemade hash browns, fried egg whites, shredded cheese, and hot sauce.
I love my Soiled Breakfast Burritos more than life itself1, but I had slowed down on shoveling them down my throat when winter set in and my weekly mileage was reduced. But we back!
Time to watch some football and wait for the refried beans and coffee to work their magic 2 to 12 times. Thank the dogs for my TUSHY Classic.
Later.
NOTE: This was written post-burrito but interrupted by the 10 AM kickoffs and the aforementioned 2 to 12 bowel movements. The burn is real.
THE SOILED SOUNDS TRACK OF THE POST
I am currently making a list of some of my favorite cover songs. One of those songs is Superchunk’s version of Sebadoh’s Brand New Love (a song first written and released by Lou Barlow’s lo-fi Sentridoh project). However, I thought I’d save Superchunk’s version for my Top 5 Songs About Death—A Laura’s Dad Tribute List. Er, I mean my Top 5 Favorite Cover Songs.
Smash Your Head also includes an amazing cover of Everybody’s Been Burned, originally written by David Crosby.
Brand New Love acoustic Sentridoh version.
Brand New Love brilliant Sebadoh version.
Brand New Love, the legit Superchunk version.
