Goals Met, Stats Checked

Within the 2025 Lumbering bylaws, no rule explicitly says that my self-imposed 25-mile weekly goal needs to be completed over consecutive days. Only that between Monday and Sunday, I hike 25 miles or more.

Knowing that I had an appointment with Doctor Bob on Thursday morning, I figured I might as well take the whole day off from “doing stuff” and save my final lumber for early Saturday morning.

I even poured a little more fuel on the fire of laziness by stopping to finally get my hair cut after two months of avoiding potentially being held captive in a chair as waiting customers of the old, white, and male persuasion thrust their unsolicited political opinions in my earholes as my unopinionated barber does his magic on my head hairs and I resist the urge to stab said customer in the throat with a pair of dull scissors like I’m Sweeney fucking Todd.

However, as luck would have it, I was only one of two folks in the shop, and I found myself with no reason to stab anyone and with plenty of time to add some miles to the week’s total. So, I hurried home, swapped shoes, and headed to the trails for a 4.86 loop. Sadly, I saw NOTHING worth photographing, but at least I got some miles in.

Friday, I was up and on the trails before 7:20.

The morning was crisp and quiet as the sun rose, and the silence of the woods was only interrupted by the sounds of the crazy ass calls of a pileated woodpecker, the babbling of the river, and my occasional bursts of phlegm-less coughing and hacking as I lumbered along.

Friday was another day of not seeing much to photograph, but I did see another eastern towhee AND get 5.31 miles of lumbering in, which put me at 25.76 miles for the week.

For some reason, I felt the urge to check up on my stats since I started the “comeback special” tour on September 19th, 2022. As luck would have it, I went over 3,000 miles this week and now sit at 3,016.44 woodsy miles, hiked, lumbered, and ran, and have averaged 4.96 miles per foot powered activity. It’s not too bad for an old, fat slacker who loves pizza and beer.
