Goodbye August!

I love summer, but I have to admit that I was glad to see the end of August and all of its swamp-ass heat and humidity. In addition to the stifling heat, each week of the month seemingly had some new problem to face that was out of my control. And in my opinion, there is no worse feeling than being faced with an issue in which you can’t control the outcome.

With that said, the past 4 weeks were a great time to revisit the words of the Stoic philosopher Epictetus and let go of what I can’t control (other people’s criminal actions, weather, house issues, etc.,) and focus on what I CAN control: my own thoughts and behavior. I like to think that I did a pretty good job.

The demise of August hasn’t solved any problems, but just like a new year, it’s always nice to work with a blank canvas and move on. Or ride on in my case, which I did four times this week. And it felt great to be back on the bike, getting consistent rides in and snapping pics along the way.

Speaking of bikes, my new “custom” Trek Stache build is almost done at the shop, and I hope to have it home and ready to ride by the end of the week.

Later.
