Hikes & Dreamboats

It’s strange to me (not really) that when I am getting outside and doing stuff—in this case, near-daily hikes in the woods—I, of course, feel better physically and mentally, but I also notice that I blather less here. I know that is a win/win for all parties concerned, but strange to me nonetheless.

This in no way means that I plan to abort my woodsy walks or return to the Bed of Torment in the Chamber of Farts for the sake of something to write about because, let’s face it, it can be a tad insufferable, and while I personally might find it therapeutic in some way to spew out depressive word salad thrice weekly and post it for the whole world to read, it can be tiring and its value overpriced.

So at the risk of ending up at the braggy end of the Douche-O-Meter for middle-class white guys, I had a sweet weekend with friends, Wifey, and B, and I also exceeded my weekly mileage goal with 27.5 miles of hiking to bring my total mileage since September 19th (the day I boarded the Black Dog until further notice) to over 120 miles.

Since B headed to MSU in the early fall, I had only seen him once, for lunch in East Lansing about a month ago, so to have him home for a few days for fall break was awesome and meant the world to Wifey and me. It was also great to catch up with an old friend of ours (one of Wifey’s best friends since 9th grade) and her son, who were in Michigan to tour MSU on Friday and were kind enough to bring B home for break and spend the evening with us.

And while I’m on the subject of B, he is currently interning with the MSU Media Department shooting and editing video. The video below is his and has been one of MSU’s top Instagram posts. We’re super proud of our future Cole Bennet!

Ok, enough of this Goodtime Charlie shit; time to start Week 6 of my 2022 Not Dead Yet Comeback Special.

SOILED SOUNDS TRACK OF THE POST:

Today’s track of the post entitled Absolutely is from the second Dreamboats collab that one of my favorite indie bands, Rozwell Kid (Morgantown represent!), did with Sleeping Bag called Dreamboats 2: A Real Chill Sequel.

This album was released in 2020 and went straight into my Pandemic Summer 2020 rotation of songs and albums scientifically proven to help me forget Anti-Vaxers, Maskholes, COVID deniers, religious bigots, and soon-to-be election denying fuck faced assholes when added to summer sun, slack, and the refreshment of choice based on taste, state laws, and availability.

Rozwell Kid and Sleeping Bag are two great indie bands in their own right and both should be checked out, but put ’em together, and you got yourself a big ol’ indie sandwich of hooks and melodies to nod along to as you enjoy the aforementioned refreshments of choice and forget about the world. Even if it’s not Pandemic Summer 2020.
