Keepin’ It Dank

In Friday’s post, I made a ridiculous and bold proclamation that I would do some treadmilling to offset the beers I planned on consuming whilst watching the football all weekend. I have no shame in admitting I did no such thing.

A week of lumbering 25+ miles in the cold, dank woods had my aging bones perfectly content to be warm inside, close to a kitchen stocked with food and adult beverages, with slippered feet up while sitting in my favorite chair, remote in hand, yelling at the TV, and being a goof as two bulldogs fart, burp, snore, and stink up the living room. It’s kind of my weekend “thing.”

I was in bed before 9 on Sunday and up before 6 to tend to the dogs, coffee up, dump out, and get to the trails to start another week of lumbering.

As with nearly every hike over the past week or two, the woods were bare, dank, lifeless, and rain-soaked, even though I rarely see it ever actually raining. [EDIT: Not more than an hour after writing this, it started raining. I stand and/or sit corrected ’cause, as the moron locals say, “I seen it.”]

Once again, the critters were few and far between. I saw one easily spooked heron fly off down the river, a few deer sprinting through the trees, and, of course, more squirrels, but no shots were fired, and I returned home with 5.20 miles in my feetz and a memory card with nothing but the crap you see here. As the saying goes, “Some days just be like that.”

Even with the continued dankness and lack of critters, it was great to be back out in the woods this morning, and my legs felt surprisingly good after two days of slack where the closest I came to a workout was foam rolling, and stretching my calves and doing body weight squats using slant boards.

Later.

THE SOILED SOUNDS TRACK OF THE POST

I can’t stop, won’t stop listening to this band! The combination of stoner metal, fuzz-rock, melodies, and modern shoe gaze that Zip-Tie Handcuffs load their releases with never fails to soothe my soul and bliss me out, and today’s track, Placed, is a perfect example. This band should be fucking huge!! But alas, they are not.
