After Saturday’s day of moving, travel, and off-schedule eating, Sunday was spent sleeping, working on my post-moving DOMS, goofing off, and watching the World Cup.
Then, come Monday, I woke up, and my body was like, “Um, NO!” So, I listened, skipped my lumber, and instead focused on getting caught up on some Cul De Sac Shack work, whilst trying not to feel guilty for skipping a hike.

I would make up for Monday’s slack on Tuesday with a 6+ mile lumber, followed by walking behind the lawnmower for nearly 2 miles. It felt good to be back to normal. Well, at least as normal as I can ever be.
Wednesday, I was back at Deerfield for another 6+ mile lumber, and I had some decent luck with some pics.
First, I had another face-to-face encounter with a deer. I was scanning the treeS, trying and failing to find any bird, not a brown-headed cowbird looking to steal a nest, and as my eyes scanned downward, I was startled to see a deer looking me right in the eyes! It was so close I wasn’t sure if I would even be able to get minimum focus! This is the second time in as many weeks I’ve come face-to-face with a herbivorian beast!!

Later in the hike, just after hitting Mile 3, I exited the Covered Bridge Trail, and a Broad-Winged Hawk took off from the ground and into a nearby tree near the bridge. Then, as I tried to find it in the backlit trees, it took off to another tree, which was blessed by the Photo Gods above with better light and perfect access for an unobstructed shot—YES!!

I didn’t see much of the rest of the hike, other than some strange campers that looked like they were in a Handmaid’s Tale cult made up of polygamists and women who love long skirts, sneakers, and strange nurse-like headwear whilst participating in MFF tent-based religious sex rituals in the woods. Strange, yet oddly arousing.
About My Backyard
Monday evening, as I went out to chill on the deck, I saw two deer lying down in the grass on the far side of our yard. They were completely uninterested in me and just sat chewing on some grass as I casually walked inside, grabbed my camera, and proceeded to get some boring shots.

Deer are not new to the backyard, but seeing them so chill, and just lying there, sort of is.

Lastly, the pollinator garden that I planted at the end of April is finally starting to actually bloom, and I’ve been documenting the process with some macro shots.

NOT A WILDFLOWER
Between the deer visiting, the gangs of birds at our feeder, and now wildflowers blooming in my own backyard, I am on my way to having a photo-creepable backyard and may never have to leave the vast (not really) grounds of the Cul De Sac Shack again… If I’m lucky.
Later.
