Flat and Moody

The pattern continued on Thursday with another 6+ mile early morning lumber in the woods.

There was some light rain overnight, and the remaining low clouds made for some super dark, 22000 ISO type conditions. So, other than the photo of a curious little squirrel spying on me as I was about to cross the suspension bridge today, I embraced the moodiness of the morning with some flat edits.

I’m also including a couple of shots that I took yesterday, but didn’t post.

The first is a black-and-white edit of a male Red-Winged Blackbird in a tree.

And the second is a photo of a deer being chased away by a Red-Winged Blackbird. The photo isn’t technically good due to the blur from shooting at 1/250th whilst standing on a suspension bridge that swayed and bounced with every move I made.

Obviously, I should have been shooting around 1/1000th to freeze all the action, but I was surprised by the presence of the deer, and had just left the dark woods where light was at a premium. However, it was a neat nature encounter, so I’m posting it.

It’s funny, I’ve heard stories for years about Red-Winged Blackbirds attacking people who get too close to their nests, but I’ve been photographing these birds for more than 10 years, and not one has ever paid any attention to me. Maybe if I had four legs and fur, it would be different!

I’m sitting at 18.44 miles on the week so far, and my 30 in 5 goal won’t happen tomorrow, but it’s been a good week of lumbering so far, and I hope to get my 30 in at some point over the weekend. We’ll see how strong my want to slack is come Saturday.

Later.
