Macro Monday Lumber

I started off this first full week of the 2025 Ignorance is Bliss Tour with a 5.50-mile hike in crisp, to say the least, 19˚ temps.

I recently sold a few lenses that I was no longer using to MPB and picked up a “new to me” Nikkor Z 105mm f/2.8 macro lens with the profits. So, today’s lumber was all about testing out the lens and working on my handheld macro skills while lumbering.

The lens is pretty sweet and can also be used for portraits, Cat 5 Cooking food shots (see below), and some landscape photography. It has some quirks with the aperture that I need to get used to, and it didn’t help that I used my z6 for the first time in a while, and it was acting a bit odd today.

I’m not sure if it was due to the cold or another issue, but it would randomly switch focus from Single Point to Wide Auto AF, and the auto screen detection was a bit wonky until I stopped and cleaned the eyecup. For all I know it was my gloved fingers causing the issues.

In the future, I’ll probably continue to use my z50 because of its size, weight, and the fact that I am so used to it. Having said that, the 105mm becomes closer to 150mm on the crop sensor z50, but in tests around the house, it seems fine.

I’ll be back in the woods early tomorrow for more miles and hopefully some OK pics.

Later.
