Plodding Along

While I wait for aging, hurt body parts to improve while lumbering, I continue to plod/run through the woods because, for some reason, that does not hurt. Well, it doesn’t hurt my knee.

After Tuesday’s 5-mile lumber of “meh,” I once again left my camera at home with the plan that I would be doing more running than walking and more sweating than picture-taking on Wednesday. And, OF COURSE, I saw the owl for the third consecutive lumber without a camera. Fuck that owl. Whoooo, does he think he is? (sorry)

I wanted to get another 5 miles in, but since I planned on running I had no idea if that would happen or not. SPOILER ALERT, It did!

The course was slightly different than the last 5-mile Lumber/Run I did, but I still shaved a nice chunk of time off (you do the math; I’m spent!).

While the total time difference is only a handful of minutes between “runbers”, the difference between yesterday’s pain-filled 5-mile hike and today’s doable 5-mile “run” was over 15 minutes!

It’s obvious that I don’t have enough intelligence or compassion, and love for myself to stop pushing through pain, but I do have enough self-loathing not to give a fuck, and in a twisted way, I come out the other side feeling amazing. Sometimes, life just be that way.

It reminds me of the old endurance racing adage that goes, “Racing is half skill and 75% intense self-hatred.” I believe it was Yogi Berra who said that during his first Hardrock 100. But I might be wrong; it might have been Liberace when he did the Race Across America.

Later.

Note: No real photos today, sorry. The title pic is from when my iPhone went off in my pocket.
