2010 UCI World Mountain Bike Champion and 2012 Olympic gold medalist Jaroslav Kulhavý is back on the bike training and racing after breaking his kneecap this past February when he fell on ice (walking).
The big Czech wasn’t down for long and was soon back training using a hand bike before progressing to one legged rides on the bike. Kulhavy made his return to racing last weekend at a C1 race in Langenlois, Austria where he finished 9th after a puncture on the last lap.
He reported on his website and Facebook page that the knee felt fine and was more limited by his overall fitness. That fitness will be tested soon at the first UCI XCO race of 2014 in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa on April 13th.
Nice to see him back racing. Even a lackluster, slow, aging fat goof like myself can attest to the fact that injuries suffered while riding and racing are one thing, but when they are from unlucky accidents it just sucks.
Best of luck to him in 2014.
