The Week’s Second Attempt

After a 45-minute treadmill lumber on Friday, the weekend came and went, and featured all my favorite/tolerable indoor winter-time activities, including a come-from-behind 2-2 draw for Spurs against City. It was swell.

Monday, I woke up to see another round of snow showers coming down and the knowledge that my morning had a variety of things that needed doing that, sadly, weren’t lumbering. So, as I sipped coffee and watched the flakes fall, I aborted the idea of a hike. My thoughts were that dealing with the general public is one thing, but dealing with the general public when rushed and pressed for time is less than desirable. I have to ease into interactions with the public, like slipping into a tub full of cold, dirty bath water featuring a buoyant hobo turd. It’s not them, it’s me. But mostly them. OK, it’s me.

But now, here we are on Tuesday morning. It’s still cold, still dark, still winter, and sadly for all, I am still here. So, as I type this by the glow of a Mac screen, my winter gear is readied, and soon I will be stuffing heaps of flesh into stretchy base layers and attempting to lace boots up without being thwarted by an expanding gut before heading out for a snowshoe. Let’s do this! (takes another sip of coffee, turns space heater to high, farts loudly and malodorously).

SEVERAL HOURS LATER…

Well, a snowshoe lumber was had, and it was nice to be back in the woods, despite our daily doses of light snow, making things way slower than my usual lumbers. Hello, 19-minute mile!

Sadly, there was little to no critter activity, with just a few black-capped chickadees chirping, some squirrels nut-noshing, and some deer scampering through the trees from a distance. Thus, only one dark, crap, noisy, slightly out of focus, over-edited shot today.

I only did 4.69 miles, mostly due to the fact that I did’t have a ton of time because I was expecting a package that needed signing for, and Wifey was sequestered in her office for a morning of conference calls. I’ll take fewer miles in exchange for playing package tag with UPS any day.

Hoping for better luck with the critters in the coming days. Also hoping to one day hike without snowshoes (fingers crossed).

Later.
