Because Michigan gotta Michigan, the weather has turned from a warm, 50˚ hike on Monday morning to a clear and frosty 27˚ lumber on Wednesday, to a soggy lumber in a steady rain and 40˚ temps on Thursday.
I’M ON A ROLLERCOASTER OF CLIMATE-INDUCED EMOTIONS!!!
After 18+ miles in three days, I scaled back a bit today and only did 5 due to the steady rain, cool temps, and aching bones. Have I ever mentioned how much I love hiking in the rain? Well, I do.
Due to the steady rain, I left the z50 and zoom lens at home and just stuck the Fuji X-70 in my pocket and hoped for the best.
Sadly, all I ended up with were some missed focus shots and missed opportunities due to not having my zoom and better autofocus. Damn.
The real heartbreaker was crossing the bridge at the beginning; I once again saw a deer making a river crossing, and this time it was a total hog of a buck with a big ass rack. It would have been a sweet shot, but instead, it’s just a sweet memory. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.
I also saw the most perfect little red squirrel sitting on a limb, eating an acorn like it was spinning an ear of corn around in its paws. I try to limit my squirrel shots due to being backyard constants, but this one would have been sweet. Again, just memories now.
As of now, I plan on sticking to a 25-mile week, and I should be able to knock that out tomorrow, given that, as of now, I’m at 23.13 miles on the week.
I wish I had more shots to share, but this crap is all I have.
Later.
