Woods and Cassius

Here is another unneeded post about me stomping around in the woods with my camera for no real reason other than to stay active outdoors while exfoliating the depressive hunks of shit that often cling to my brain like barnacles on a 17th-century sailor’s unkept man-nubbins.1

October was a good month for foto-footzing; I finished the month of October with 112 miles of near-daily woodsy lumbering, which brings my total mileage hiked since September 19th to a nugget’s hair under 150 miles, averaging 3.7 miles per hike.

Some may be wondering if I’ve lost any excess weight that I’ve been dragging around and bitching about for years during my 2022 Not Dead Yet Comeback Special; the answer is, I have no idea! I’m feeling fitter and some clothes are fitting better for sure, but haven’t weighed myself in months and don’t really care. My real goal is to be in the woods with my camera, letting my mind feed off nature like a newborn bear cub at Ma Nature’s ample teats, anything else is a bonus2.

I’m looking forward to November, more miles, and more time in the woods. This post includes shots from the last week of stomping around Deerfield Park with various cameras, plus a bonus shot of Lola (the dog).

SOILED SOUNDS TRACK OF THE POST:

The track Cassius comes from Foals and their 2008 album, Antidotes.

The first time I heard this album, it blew me away, and 14 years later, I still find myself drawn to it. I really think any track on this album could be a single, but I always find myself digging Cassius.

Foals have released several albums since 2008, and each has some stand-out tracks, but no subsequent release does it for me like Antidotes.

  1. I was going to vomit up some bro-science about the benefits of hiking in the woods, but I found this article on the WWW that does it better than I could ever write.
  2. I recognize that analogy went sideways fast. My bad.
