Our flirtation with sunlight ended, and we were back to steady snow and winter slop today. Slop that wasn’t due to hit until mid-morning, and slop that I had hoped to avoid driving in by getting to the trails early. But it turns out the weather goofs were wrong, and a steady wet snow fell for nearly the entire lumber. Such is life, whatever.

With the snow steadily falling, the woods were void of most creatures barring a pack of deer deep in the trees, and the squirrels. I take a lot of photographs of deer, probably more than I should, but I recently read a piece written by a wildlife photographer, and he referred to the winter as his “off time” from his usual subjects (birds), and he just tries to work on his skills in other ways. So, I guess I’m using the deer. And as long as they don’t mind, I will continue to do so until the birds and nature nubbins return in the spring.
It’s funny, I grew to love wildlife photography even more when B was done playing footy, and I stopped shooting the games for the boys and their parents. I used the wildlife to fill in for my love of shooting soccer. Now I’m using the deer until more wildlife returns. Maybe if I take a ball, I can convince them to play, and I can satisfy BOTH of my photography desires. Maybe not.

Footing wasn’t the easiest today, but I was motivated to get a 6-mile loop in and finally get back to my 30 in 5 lumbering week. So, footing shmooting, I did it, and I’m stoked to be back on track.
I was happy with the few shots I got today (except phone pic of my bloated but happy face), and I’m looking forward to a couple of days out of the woods and in my comfy chair watching football. Just so long as Spurs don’t shit the bed against 18th place West Ham on Saturday. I will not be holding my breath.
I ended the week with 30.52 miles, which is more outdoor miles than the past two weeks combined. Hoping for more next week!
Later.
