Monday Morning Darkness

After a weekend of blissful slack that included nerding out watching a come-from-behind draw for Spurs (finally learning to be not-so-Spursy), and Arsenal dropping much-needed points to City (A loss would have been better and put Spurs in 2nd rather than 3rd). Not to mention Wifey kindly got up with Lola on Sunday, which allowed me to sleep in until around 8, which is almost 3 hours longer than I have in ages. Damn, that felt good!

With two days of bad choices, endless footy watching, and slack out of my way, it was time to return to the woods on Monday for a lumber. I was back up at my normal 5:20, and found myself in the pitch black woods a nugget hair after 7 with the light from my headlamp leading the way.

I needed the light for the first mile and a half or so, and enjoyed the stomping around in the dark, and coming face to face with a leaf illuminated by my light and seemingly suspended in mid-air by a cobweb (see intro pic).

Hiking in the dark is nice, but it’s nicer knowing that the sun will come up before too long. Sunrise hikes are pretty awesome, but today was all clouds and grey skies, so the streaks of orange light from the rising sun breaking through the trees were sadly absent.

I saw a few deer here and there, and a caterpillar still hanging on, waiting to become a tiger moth before the temps drop, but other than that, the hike was pretty chill.

In the end, I did a 6.06-mile loop and came home for some much-needed breakfast before the meaty balls of my day started.

Later.
