Before I blather on for no reason whatsoever about the mundane, goofball stuff I do, I wanted to take a second to give a shout-out to the readers and folks I’ve got to know over the years from the Los Angeles and Southern California area. I hope you, your families, and your homes are all safe. Be careful out there.
OK, now on, with tales of my blissful ignorance whilst walking in the woods with my camera.
After getting 30 miles in my feetz last week, my body let me know that 30 miles of lumbering is the max these days, especially in the winter when aging bones feel just that much more aged.
Having said that, I was happy to get 30 miles in and wouldn’t mind doing it again this week, but there is a good chance I’ll need to invoke the Winter Contingency Act for the first time this winter.
I was also happy to end the week with two days of slack that had me only leaving the house to shovel snow in the drive and help B pack his car for his return to East Lansing. The rest of the time was spent cooking good food, eating said food, enjoying the best light beer in the world, and watching LOTS of FA Cup football.
Now, as I type this dross in the darkness of Monday morning, I am trying to find the will to get myself upstairs, into my cold weather gear, and out the door for a hike. Something that, to be quite honest, I am done with, and it’s not even mid-January! We have at least THREE more months of this to go before the sun, sweat, and mosquitos return.
As usual, a very large cup of hot coffee and some breakfast got me out the door and into the snowy woods.
Today was supposed to be Macro Monday, but I really didn’t see any macro shots that I haven’t done a hundred times before, so what macro you do see here today was shot over the weekend as I made some pasta with onions and garlic sautéed in olive oil, Italian spices, and some cannellini beans thrown in for added protein and fiber.
Anyway, no good macro shots from today’s lumber. However I did see some deer and a pileated woodpecker pecking as the snow fell. Both shots would have been infinitely better had I just taken my zoom. Sigh.
Today’s conditions bordered on the need for snowshoes, but I opted for boots and strapping microspikes on after a mile of slogging through the snow. I think tomorrow, I’ll just go with the snowshoes, given that my average mile time today was around 21 minutes! I can’t imaginesnowshoes slowing me down anymore than that.
OK, need to get stuff done and hopefully watch the mighty Dagenham & Redbridge FC (currently sitting 15th in the National League table) take on Millwall in the FA Cup later today. C’MON YOU DAGGERS! (For what it’s worth, I’ve never seen “Dag and Red” play before, but I’m backing them just because.
Later.
