The past two days were filled with lumbered miles, and more bucks looking for a good time. It was all the LAST of my leaf cleanup (I SWEAR!!) around the Cul-De-Sac Shack.
Thursday:
Thursday was another 6+ mile hike and then home for breakfast and the above-mentioned leaf cleanup, which totally did my old ass in. Between the hike and the yard cleanup, I had over 14,000 steps in my feet by noon. I also had a neck that felt like a disc was going to shoot out of my spine like a bullet, and a lower back stiffer than, than a, um, well, it was stiff.
During Thursday’s loop, I took the photo above of the buck in the frosty reeds and willows. I must have taken 10 shots, because between the early morning light and the millions of reeds, I was having trouble getting focus. I was so geeked about the shot and hopeful that at least one of the shots was in proper focus. Well, I got ONE and totally dig it. When I bring it up full-screen, I could sit and stare at it for hours. [you can click on it to see a larger version in a new window]
Friday:
With that, I was literally in bed at 7 PM on Thursday, and 10 hours later on Friday morning woke up more refreshed than I had been all week, eager to get the last of my miles in for the week, a 6.01-mile loop that put me at 30.24 miles on the week and my 30 in 5 goal met.

During Friday’s loop, I also saw yet another buck, and it had the largest rack I think I’ve ever seen in person (look at me not saying anything rude about seeing racks).
Later, in the morning, I was talking to my barber, who is a former hunter, and he was cluing my non-hunting self in on what the bucks are up to and why I’m seeing so many right now.
Basically, the abbreviated barbershop version is that they’re trying to score with a doe, and they go off on their own looking for action. He said, more than likely, there was a doe nearby, but I just didn’t see the doe.
The weekend looks kind of meh due to crap International Break footy, and many outdoor activities are limited by the first day of hunting season and millions of white guys with hangovers and itchy trigger fingers looking to shoot a buck their way. *hangs head, sighs*
Oh well, if I drink enough beer, maybe watching Slovenia vs Kosovo will be entertaining.
Later.
