Thanksgiving No. 54

The week of lumbering has been “good enough” so far, with 15.75 in thus far. However, I did break from tradition today and skip an early morning Turkey Day lumber due to blustery conditions and the need to go super early so as to finish before the annual Turkey Trot trail race. Having said that, as I type, Wifey is out doing a 3-mile training run in town for her upcoming Jingle Bell 5K. Chapeau my love.

B arrived home on Wednesday afternoon. It was awesome to catch up with him before he, Wifey, and I continued our tradition of watching goofball comedies. Last night was Starsky and Hutch. So freaking funny! With any luck, tonight will be Paul Blart, Mall Cop I for the 300th time, or even better, Fired Up! for the 1,000th time. Thankful.

It was also fun to hang out with B and drink a couple of pints of Guinness. Hard to believe one day you’re hurriedly feeding your kid baby food before heading to a job you hate and daycare, and the next day (or 21+ years later) you’re having pints and catching up on life. Thankful.

Right now, I am in the calm before the cooking storm, and I’m so excited. Other than a quick dessert, I make the entire Thanksgiving meal, and I could not be happier and totally in my element. Thankful.

It’s also cool that B’s longtime friend C-Dawg (not his real name) is going to join us for Thanksgiving dinner. C goes to CMU, and his parents are divorced. One parent lives in Florida with her new husband. And his dad, who lives here in Michigan, is spending the holiday with his new wife’s family his ill father out of state who has just been put in a senior care center. In any event, he is always welcome here, and B has been friends with him since first grade. Crazy stuff, and I’m thankful we can be here for him.

UPDATE: Along with C-Dawg, at least one of B’s other two best friends growing up are coming too! Their mom got a stomach bug and had to call off Thanksgiving, so we invited them too. Good thing I bought a bigger turkey breast than usual!! Should be a hoot.

Looking forward to spending Black Friday in the woods with my camera, hiking off today’s calories. Very thankful for that.

Later.
