Thursday, I stomped out another 6 miles in the crisp morning air, and it was pretty darn not bad.
The photo-taking wasn’t great, with just a couple of legit deer encounters in the early morning darkness that are pretty crap due to needing a ton of noise reduction because they were shot at 5000 ISO. Other than that, it was some random fall trail pics (“B Roll”) to tickle my creative fancy. That’s sort of the way it’s been lately, but it’ll improve.
I did see a nice-sized spider in its web amongst the dew-covered weeds, but the sun reflected off the dew, and the position of the spider in the web made things pretty impossible. It would have been sweet, but alas, it was not to be.
However, the biggest insult to my attempts at picture-taking was when I was scanning the trees on the opposite side of the river about 4 miles in. My eyes roved from top to bottom looking for birds of prey, and then, as my eyes focused back to what was in front of me, I came face-to-face with a hawk perched on a dead tree branch just yards from my face. We stared at each other for what seemed like minutes, but in reality was mere seconds. I raised my camera, and it flew off. I have NO idea how I didn’t see it!!

It was a great encounter, but all I have to remember it by are these words and a photo of the tree that it had been perched upon.
Friday was my chance to get 30 miles in my feetz in just 5 days, and I wasn’t going to pass up the chance to get to the park as the sun rose to get it done.
I lumbered 5.68 miles, my shortest loop of the week, and now have 30.12 miles completed. My week finished, if I choose. Which I think I do, but I’m not ruling out some photo creeping.

Other than my lumbering, the highlight of my week was taking care of some wood trim on two entrance doors to the garage.
One door frame only needed to be sanded and painted, but one had a large rotting piece that was going to be an issue. As luck would have it, I had some scraps of the same door frame in the garage from when we replaced our front door a while back. It’s long been waiting to be dumpstered, but I was able to remove the rotting trim and then replace it with the piece I had in the garage.

Actual carpentry is usually more than my non “real” man skills are used to, but I did it! I have to say I was sweating bullets that I’d fuck it up after I removed the old trim, ha!
I have no idea why I was obsessed with fixing the garage entrance door frames and replacing the outdoor lighting this summer, but I’m happy I did! Anything to make me feel like less of a dirtbag, I suppose. Next up is fixing some damaged drywall and painting B’s old bedroom.
Thank the dawgs above, the Prem is back tomorrow, and Spurs play at West Ham tomorrow afternoon in a London derby. Hoping to get back on track with a win. C’MON YOU SPURS!
Later.
THE SOILD SOUNDS TRACK OF THE POST
Legendary indie producer (too many great artists to list) and musician (Big Black, Shellac, etc), the late Steve Albini + garage rock legends Cheap Trick. I almost wet myself the first time I heard this. So raw, so good. The opening track Hello There is killer!
