I got back on track with my miles on Tuesday, stomping out a 6.14-mile loop, and taking a few pics along the way. The pics weren’t great, but it was nice to have my mojo back a bit.
After a couple of days of rain and wind, the woods are nearly completely void of leaves on the trees. Thankfully, the leaves will retain some color for a week or so before their decay turns everything in the woods different shades of turd.
About two miles into the hike, I saw the Two Aging Hippies and their equally aged dog slowly coming towards me. It was the first time I’d seen them since early spring. Nice to know their still out there doing Aging Hippy stuff. Still no signs of The Guy My Imagination Thought Might Be Living in The Park, or Jim(?) and Mary(?), though.
Once home, it was a quick breakfast and then into the yard for more leaf cleanup.
NOTE: When I started writing this on Tuesday afternoon, I went on an extended ramble about my fall cleanup technique. Then I realized that my HAVING a fall cleanup technique is super fucking lame, and SHARING my fall cleanup technique unsolicited to readers would make me a real piece of shit. So, it was properly binned.
Come Wednesday, due to having a full day of stuff that needed doing and places that needed going, I thought about going a bit earlier with my headlamp, but instead opted to wait a bit longer for the first hints of light. Screw it!
After two days of heightened critter activity and good (enough) light, I was hopeful for more of the same. Turns out the only things moving about or making noise were some random blue jays, squirrels, and a few deer finding safety from white guys with various weaponry and unsolicited opinions that are slowly starting to emerge in the surrounding fields.
I got one shot of a deer I dig, but other than that, it was crap.1 The hike was good, though, coming in at 6.27 miles. Adding some small hunks of trail over the past two days has helped me get back on schedule to complete my 30 in 5 weekly goal. Yippee.
