After missing a hike on Tuesday due to an appointment with Dr. Bob, I happily returned to the woods this morning.
I was on the trail at 6:59 AM with my headlamp strapped to my noggin, and a spring in my step for no other reason than to try to warm up in the 40˚ morning air. And to forget that I was underdressed for the occasion, something that I tend to do until the first snowflakes hit my gelatinous, pasty white legs and tell me to put some damn pants on.
Just as I was crossing the main bridge to the trails, I saw what I believe is a Common True Katydid on the railing. I took a pic of it shining in the light of my headlamp, and as you can see, it’s not great. Still, it was neat to see and a surprise given the cold temps.

I’ve been lacking the same giddy up that I had last week, but I blame the cooler temps, sore muscles, and a wonky schedule this week for that. OR, I just suck.
I also had another poor day with the camera, no doubt due to the first two miles being done in the dark, and the sun only up for about an hour by the time I finished the 6+ mile loop. All pics were taken at extremely high ISO in some not-so-great light. The intro leaf photo is of early sunlight hitting a leaf, not my headlamp.

Better luck tomorrow, perhaps.
Later.
THE SOILED SOUNDS TRACK OF THE POST
There was no way I was going to see a bug called a Katydid and NOT think of What Katie Did.
