Crickets, Miles, and Dumpsters

My goal for last weekend was one of footy watching (Spurs won 2-1), slack, and beer, and I freaking nailed it again!

Of course, come Monday, I was anxious to get back in the woods, and that’s exactly where I found myself a nugget hair before 7 AM.

I was hopeful of getting some Super Moon shots on my way to the park, but by the time I got off the main roads, the Super Moon turned into a Not-So-Super Moon and was half obscured by some clouds as it un-superfied itself.

The first two miles were done in the dark, with my headlamp blazing the way and illuminating the eyes of critters in the woods as I stomped along.

I saw little to photograph over the six-mile loop, but I was pleasantly surprised to hear more bird activity than I had in a few weeks. Hopefully, as the trees lose their leaves, more photo ops of my winged friends will occur.

Once I got home, it was breakfast, followed by taking delivery of a small 5-yard dumpster to clean out the garage and get rid of some bulky items we’ve accumulated after nearly 10 years in this house and nearly 15 years in Michigan.

After a good hour spent hauling bulky shit up and downstairs to throw into said dumpster, it was time to mow and trim the grass.

Sadly, I wasn’t finished. After a shower, I needed to go for groceries and then make lunch before catching up on the laundry. I don’t think I need to tell you that after a 6-mile hike, dumpster filling, lawn mowing, time amongst the general public, and laundry, I was SPENT at the end of the day, and was almost happy that Tuesday would be void of a hike due to an early morning appointment with Doctor Bob.

Tuesday came, and with it was my appointment (I’m healthy but fat), finishing off filling the dumpster, errands, and worrying about Lola (the dog), who Wifey dropped at the vet earlier to have a mole removed from her foot.

I have to admit, my whole world gets thrown off a bit when I don’t hike on weekdays. It’s a strange combination of exercise guilt and feeling like an expendable deadbeat that only finds a sense of purpose from a walk in the woods with my camera, no matter how many dumpsters I fill, yards I mow, groceries I fetch, meals I cook, or laundry I do.

Hoping to get back on track with a hike, some sunnier weather, and maybe a better disposition on Wednesday.

I took no photos on Monday, but I did see a bush cricket (I believe) on the windscreen on Sunday and took a crap pic of it with my macro lens.

Later.
